Academic Invitational Meets and Tournaments

Rather than going to the district meet without any formal experience in a contest, most high school students attend invitational or practice meets in their local area. While the UIL does not govern such meets, most host schools abide by UIL rules.

For schools that host an Invitational Meet, UIL prepares two sets of high school tests (Set A and Set B) that may be purchased for use during dates listed on the UIL calendar. Schools planning to host meets on dates other than these will need to order tests from other sources. Invitational materials are not for individual use or to be used solely as study materials. They will only be sold to schools hosting invitational meets.

If you need to make a correction on a previously submitted invitational meet, email changes to UIL Academics at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

We are excited to offer the first tournament in a series of virtual tournaments for UIL journalism competition. Pocket Coach Academy is pleased to offer the first scholarship-qualifying tournaments offered virtually and asynchronously specifically for UIL-style journalism. Students will get the opportunity to compete in Copy Editing, News Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, and Headline Writing. Watch this Video for all the details about the PCA Virtual Journalism Series! Welcome to the PCA Journalism Virtual Tournament Series How does this work? Sponsors will receive the prompts the weekend before papers are due. Our first, initial deadline will be Thursday afternoon at 5pm for each paper to be submitted. Sponsors will receive a competition code through Tabroom and then upload each piece of writing through a Google Form (sent out with the prompts). Our judges will receive the papers on Thursday evening and we will have them back to us Sunday evening. That Monday morning, we will send out results and feedback. Each paper will be rated by judges and receive comments. The entries receiving the highest rating will automatically qualify for a Championship-level tournament at the end of the season (April). The prompts will be created by PCA staff and mirror a UIL-style prompt. What is the cost? Each entry will be $16. There are no other fees associated with this event and sponsors are not expected to judge. What are the entry limits? We will limit each event to 150 entries initially. If we have the ability to expand that, we will. All entries will be waitlisted until two weeks before the papers are due. At that point, we will be letting entries in based on their registration date. Subscribers to the Journalism Academy will be given first opportunity to compete. Timeline for Tournament #1 Monday, September 9 - Registration Opens Monday, September 30 - Waitlist Begins to Clear Sunday, October 13 - Prompts emailed to sponsors via Tabroom. Thursday, October 17 - Each paper must be submitted by 5pm via the Google Form sent out to sponsors. Friday, October 18-Sunday, October 20 - Judges grade papers. Monday, October 21 - Feedback and ratings published for sponsors. Qualifiers announced. We look forward to providing this opportunity to your students!

Watch this Video (https://youtu.be/c3wbSykDkFE?si=uzxWgaTQnKBP5aRd) for all the details about the PCA Virtual Journalism Series! Welcome to the PCA Journalism Virtual Tournament Series How does this work? Sponsors will receive the prompts on a Thursday morning. They then have a little over one week to write and submit their students' work. Our first, initial deadline will be the following Thursday afternoon at 5pm for each paper to be submitted. Sponsors will receive a competition code through Tabroom (located on their entry list) and then upload each piece of writing through a Google Form (sent out with the prompts). Our judges will receive the papers on Thursday evening and we will have them back to PCA Sunday evening. That Monday morning, we will send out results and feedback. Each paper will be rated by judges and receive comments. The entries receiving the highest ratings will automatically qualify for a Championship-level tournament at the end of the season (April). Timeline for Tournament #1 Monday, December 9 - Registration Opens; Inital Caps on School Entry to Allow Maximum Participation of Schools Monday, January 13 - Waitlist Begins to Clear Thursday, January 16 - Prompts emailed to sponsors via Tabroom. Entries locked. Tuesday, January 21 - Last day to enter. Thursday, January 23 - Each paper must be submitted by 5pm via the Google Form sent out to sponsors. Friday, January 17-Sunday, January 19- Judges grade papers. Tuesday, January 21 - Feedback and ratings published for sponsors. Qualifiers announced. Welcome to the Salado Online UIL CX State Certification Deadline Scrimmage. This tournament is primarily being held with the intent to help schools across the state get 4-5 rounds of CX debate to help them meet their 8 round rule requirements. NOTE: We will do the best we can to avoid conferences from hitting each other, however, we CANNOT PROMISE that you WON’T hit someone from your conference. We encourage you to still debate to allow everyone the ability to claim that round as a true completed round. We will be using tabroom for registration, balloting and communication. We will use the NSDA campus for virtual rounds. It is imperative you check your emails for tabroom updates, that is how we will send out information regarding the tournament leading up and the day of.
