NIL Information

UIL is issuing guidance related to recent legislation regarding prospective student-athletes and their name, image, or likeness (NIL). The only impact to UIL student athletes with the passage of this legislation is that prospective student athletes are now able to sign NIL agreements with colleges and universities as long as they are 17 years of age or older.

These NIL agreements are only allowed between prospective student athletes and colleges and universities. This legislation and UIL rules do not allow prospective student athletes to sign NIL agreements with any other entity, other than an institution of higher education. Student athlete recruits who sign NIL agreements with colleges and universities are only allowed to receive compensation related to that NIL agreement, from a UIL perspective, once they have exhausted all remaining eligibility in the applicable sport. Spring 2025 Legislative Council Meeting

The June UIL Legislative Council meeting will be held at the Westin Austin at the Domain in Austin on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. The morning Public Forum and afternoon General Session will be live streamed courtesy of NFHS.
